Speaking at a news conference occasioned by the first anniversary of the Japanese donation to Serbia’s health sector, Labus said that the technical support arrived on time and has been put in use thanks to the highly skilled Serbian medical personnel as well as their Japanese colleagues.
The support arrived in four Serbian hospitals in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac, Labus said and added that the Japanese government has secured another 26 individual donations for Serbia’s hospitals.
Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic thanked the Japanese people and the government for offering Serbia help at times of greatest need.
Milosavljevic said that Japanese experts helped extensively in the training of medical staff in Serbia and voiced hope that cooperation with Japan in the field of medicine will be continued.
Japanese Ambassador to Belgrade Ryuichi Tanabe said that he is very satisfied because donors' programmes allowed for the purchase of necessary equipment for operating rooms, intensive care wards and laboratories.
The Japanese government's donation, as part of the project of equipping Serbian major health centres with medical equipment is worth €8.9 million.
The Serbian Clinical Centre in Belgrade received a donation worth €2.7 million, in Novi Sad €1.8 million, in Nis €1.3 million and Kragujevac €952,000. The total value of the Japanese aid to Serbian health sector exceeds $14 million.
