Stefanovic said at a press conference held at the Palace of Serbia that this is envisaged by the Agreement on cooperation between Serbia and the United States in drugs control and law enforcement, which he signed today together with Minister of Justice Nikola Selakovic and US Ambassador to Serbia Michael Kirby.
He stressed that this document will improve the functioning of the judiciary and the police, particularly in the fight against organised crime and corruption, through various projects.
According to him, police officers will be provided training and scholarships, which will result in a better trained police for fighting organised crime.
The agreement signed today is the first of its kind between Serbia and the United States, the Minister recalled, adding that it will contribute to better relations between the two countries.
Selakovic pointed out that through five different projects, the system of criminal investigations and prosecutions will be raised to a higher level, which will also improve the fight against organised crime and corruption.
Kirby recalled that over the past ten years the United States has given more than $30 million in aid for programmes in that field.
He announced that FBI agents will be on visit to Serbia in the next few months, which will also help in the building of institutions.
