Austerity measures necessary for economy to recover

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said tonight that within the package of austerity measures that the Serbian government plans to implement, public sector wages and pensions amounting to RSD 25,000 will not be reduced.

Vucic said in an interview with Radio Television Serbia (RTS) that the salaries of more than RSD 25,000 will most probably be linearly reduced by 10% or 10.5%, adding that citizens should not worry, because our country is far from bankruptcy.
He announced a fierce fight against the gray economy and dismiss of redundant employees in administration, as well as reducing some subsidies to public enterprises and strengthening the private sector.
The Prime Minister said that the above measures are necessary for the recovery of Serbian economy, adding that economic growth can be expected in 2015, and that we should exit from the crisis in 2016.
According to Vucic, Serbia’s liquidity is not at stake and we have sufficient funds by April next year without going into debt.
Vucic said that in the fight against the informal economy countries can achieve significant results, and said that he intended to step up the fight against the informal economy.
