Opening of Chapter 32 in October

Minister without portfolio responsible for European integration Jadranka Joksimovic today expressed hope that Chapter 32 relating to the control of public finances will be opened in October.

Joksimovic said in an interview with the daily newspaper "Vecernje Novosti" that Serbia has a good chance to take the initiative in implementing the reforms that are key to opening the most important chapters in the accession negotiations with the EU.
One of these is Chapter 32, which refers to effective operation and control of budget spending, without which there is no successful fight against corruption.
She said that the government is doing everything to open chapters 23 and 24, connected to the rule of law, by the end of the year.
In order to achieve this objective we must intensify reform of the judiciary and the police, the media, minority and human rights, the fight against corruption and organised crime, she said.
