Odita, Partizan's recent acquisition, opened the score in the 12th minute.
But Partizan's early confidence was dampened in the 27th by Dnipro's Serhiy Nazarenko when he snatched the ball from Partizan's poorly connected midfielders and netted easily before some 15,000 spectators.
A few changes and regrouping in Partizan enabled Odita to successfully surge again and surprise Dnipro's goalkeeper in the last minute of the first half.
But Partizan's new lead lasted only until the 57th when Dnipro defender Andriy Rusol dared a direct run and, with perfect support from his midfielders, crept close enough and took a long, precise shot past Partizan goalkeeper Ivica Kralj.
The second leg was scheduled for February 24.
