Djelic admitted in an interview for today's edition of the daily Danas that it is not realistic to expect that the key actors change their attitudes.
It is certain that an agreement with the EU would be the best outcome. For Serbia, it would be ideal if our proposed resolution received the approval of the vast majority in the General Assembly. Serbia, however, cannot agree to changing the meaning of the document, reiterated the Deputy Prime Minister.
He stressed that Serbia is not trying to make use of the divisions within the EU regarding the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, but is doing what every other country would have done in the same situation.
Referring to the deadlines for getting candidate status for EU membership, Djelic stated that due to pressure from some EU countries, it is realistic to expect that applications will be forwarded to the European Commission at the end of the year, after the European Commission publishes its annual report on achieved progress in November and after the new report of Hague Tribunal Prosecutor Serge Brammertz is submitted in December.
Also, the Deputy Prime Minister outlined that the visit of German Minister of Foreign Affairs Guido Westerwelle to Belgrade next week is expected to reaffirm Germany's support to Serbia's EU integration as well as to the strengthening of bilateral ties.
Djelic also announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic will lead the Serbian delegation at the 5th meeting of the Business Council of Germany and Serbia, which will be held from 23 to 25 August in Berlin.
