In an interview for the NIN weekly, Cvetkovic said that Telekom Srbija will be sold if these two conditions are fulfilled, adding that the company cannot remain state-owned and operate efficiently.
He noted that it is high time to change the ownership structure in the company so that it can deal with competition in the years to come.
Cvetkovic recalled that Norwegian company Telenor was granted a licence for a landline telephone operator, adding that in a year or two this company will become strong competition in the market.
He said it would be wrong to halt the sale of Telekom Srbija until the company’s market position and value start deteriorating.
Cvetkovic said that funds from the sale of Telekom Srbija will be spent primarily on the construction of regional roads of strategic importance for Serbia, and stressed that the process must be transparent.
The Prime Minister said he is optimistic when it comes to the end of the economic crisis in Serbia, and expressed the hope that the situation will improve in the coming months.
He recalled that in March this year the average salary increased by approximately 10% compared to the same month last year, GDP began to grow, exports have also increased in 2010 while imports stagnated, which are the parameters that indicate an improvement.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the problem is the growth of unemployment, and added that citizens will begin to feel the improvement when employment starts growing.
Speaking about a possible increase in wages and pensions, Cvetkovic said that the Serbian government is willing to increase them if all calculations show that this would be possible.
