Head of the Serbian government’s EU Integration Office Milica Delevic said that Serbia is yet to make many steps on its path to the EU, but that the speed of accession process depends first of all on the speed and quality of reforms in the country.
In an interview with daily Danas, Delevic said that the speeds of reforms within a country are a result of consensus on the steps that are to be made.
She said that last year is an example of how the efforts invested yielded results and bought progress in the EU integration process.
Delevic explained that the steps Serbia has to make on its way to the EU are submitting an application for membership to the European Commission and responding to the Questionnaire. After that, members of the Commission should give their opinion, Serbia should obtain its candidate status, negotiations should follow and the decision on Serbia’s membership should be made.
She pointed out that that is why it is important for Serbia to show that it can resolve the remaining problems and carry out reforms effectively, because that is how it will encourage the EU to let it enter the next phase.
