In a New Year's interview to Tanjug news agency, Krkobabic said that in 2010 the tax policy will be tightened in order to secure better payment of tax by individuals and companies, thus achieving a regular inflow of revenue into the state budget.
The government intends to propose additional measures to protect the living standards of the most vulnerable pensioners and other citizens, in line with the country's economic possibilities, Krkobabic said.
He explained that the consequences of the economic crisis have been overcome in great part, which can be seen in the last few months, when economic recovery has been recorded.
Salaries and pensions will be frozen in 2010 and will not additionally burden the state. The government will continue to make savings by reducing the number of public employees. In that way, public administration will cost less and will be more effective.
He said that the greatest successes of the government this year have been the abolition of tourist visas for the Schengen zone, the unfreezing of the Interim trade agreement and the submission of the application for EU candidacy.
The government forwarded to parliament several hundred legal regulations which meet EU standards and this legislative activity will bring us closer to the family of European nations, where we rightfully belong, stressed Krkobabic.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that during this year the Serbian President and the Interior Ministry achieved many successes related to major national interests.
He said that 2009 was the year of an exceptionally successful fight against all forms of crime and corruption and the success of the government in protecting the social and economic position of the people despite the economic crisis is visible.
This year the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office was entrusted with the very difficult task of reforming the pension and invalidity insurance system, a process which is nearing completion, said Krkobabic, adding that he hopes that the reforms will result in an economically and socially sustainable pension system.
He particularly stressed that in 2009 major progress was made in improving the position of refugees and displaced persons and that for the first time funds were allocated from the National Investment Plan for refugees from the various regions of the former Yugoslavia and the refugee problem was recognised at international level.
