Serbian Minister for Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic said today that the Radio Television of Serbia RTS today signed a protocol with the Ministry concerning cooperation on a joint project for the satellite broadcast of state television programmes in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia.
In a statement to Tanjug news agency, Sreckovic said that the Serbian government sees it as in the national interest to broadcast national television programmes in all parts of the world where there are Serbian communities, adding that are some three to four million Serbs living abroad.
The Minister said that he is convinced that this will be one more very clear signal to Serb communities abroad that Serbia has begun a new, long term policy towards its Diaspora which will be of benefit to Serbia and all Serbs.
Sreckovic said that the broadcast of RTS programmes abroad will have a political, economic and cultural impact.
He said that he hopes that this will give a more concrete and fuller picture of all investment opportunities in the country to Serbs abroad who are interested in investing in Serbia.
He stressed that this will also contribute to the preservation of the Serbian language and the Cyrillic script among Serbs living abroad, which is of great cultural and national importance.
He said that it will help Serbs living abroad see that a new policy is in place which is based on partnership, which will help build confidence and trust.
Serbia today is a country which respects international norms and laws while protecting its national interests, concluded Sreckovic.
