First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic stated that 30–40 criminal groups are currently operating in Serbia, adding that the police and security services have information about them, but still need evidence in order to arrest them.
In an interview for today’s edition of the Press daily, Dacic said that, in order to fight organised crime efficiently it is necessary to prevent information on planned police actions from leaking out to the public.
He noted that the police pay most attention to organised criminal groups dealing primarily with drug and weapon trading and human trafficking, as well as groups associated with murder and robbery.
Most of these groups operate in Belgrade, said Dacic, adding that the activities of criminal groups in neighbouring countries are often transferred to Serbia.
Dacic said that the police will present information concerning organised crime at the next State Security Council’s session, adding that the state must strongly support the police in its fight against these criminal groups.
Dacic announced that the Ministry of Interior and the state security services will exchange information regarding organised crime during the upcoming period.
