Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic stated that Serbia, like the rest of the world, will have to face a serious economic and financial crisis in 2009 and that the burden will have to be distributed equally.
Djelic told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik that next year will be about the struggle for jobs and investments.
He added that the arrangement with Russia is important as it will provide modernisation of the Pancevo and Novi Sad oil refineries, to the amount of €500 million.
Serbia will have its own refinery capacity, which will be competitive with other refineries in the region, as soon as boundaries are open.
Djelic said that the construction of the gas pipeline is also in Russia’s interest, adding that next year the government will announce tenders for the construction of two electric plants, based on brown coal, whose capacity will be 700 MGW.
He also recalled that the European Commission had announced it will decide on visa abolition for some Western Balkan countries next spring and Serbia is therefore making efforts to be among them.
