France, Serbia-Montenegro, Turkey bid to host 2010 World basketball championships

France, Serbia-Montenegro, and Turkey have submitted final bids to host the World Basketball Championships in 2010 after four other countries decided not to go forth with their bids.
In February, seven countries expressed interest in hosting the tournament, but Australia, Italy, Puerto Rico, and Russia all bowed out without making formal bids.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) will pick the host nation at a meeting in December in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Serbia and Montenegro is the reigning World Champion, but its team failed to advance out of preliminary play at the Athens Olympics. The next World Basketball Championship is in Japan in 2006.
