Parliamentary and local elections will also be held in 23 municipalities in Kosovo-Metohija. The number of registered voters in the southern Serbian province for parliamentary elections is 115,712 and the number of polling stations is 295.
The number of registered voters for local elections in the province is 201,751 and there are 108 lists of candidates. The number of voters also includes the displaced persons from Kosovo, who will vote in central Serbia as well at 157 special polling stations.
The Serbian Electoral Commission (RIK) established that in 27 penitentiary-reform centres in Serbia, there are 8,437 persons with the right to vote, and there are also 7,552 soldiers with the right to vote.
As far as voters abroad are concerned, 75 polling stations will be open in 40 countries for the parliamentary, provincial and local elections, and the number of registered voters is 51,211.
Serbian citizens who live in Great Britain, Canada, Portugal and the US can vote at parliamentary elections today, one day before voting will take place at other polling stations abroad and in Serbia.
Polling stations in Canada were opened at 7 am at Serbia’s consulate general in Toronto, Serbian embassy in Ottawa, offices of the honorary consulate of Serbia in Vancouver and at the Serbian parliamentary church of Holy Trinity in Montreal.
In Portugal, Serbian voters will vote in the Serbian embassy in Lisbon, and in Great Britain in the Serbian embassy in London.
Six polling stations will be opened in the US – in the Serbian embassy in Washington, the consulates general in Chicago and New York, the Saint Sava cultural centre and the Saint Sava Church.
There will be three, seven and two polling stations in Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina respectively.
Election silence is currently in force in Serbia and will last until the polls close on May 11 at 8 pm, and during that time any political propaganda through the media is prohibited, as well as predicting election results.
During the election silence broadcasting data on the voter turnout and video clips of the proper state organs and non-governmental organisations informing citizens about when and how they can cast their votes is permitted.
