In an interview to television Palma Plus from Jagodina, Kostunica said that a solution to the position of Serbs in the province must be found because even the most powerful forces in the international community are faced with serious issues in Kosovo-Metohija.
He said that the Serbian Constitution and the legal system are applied in the province wherever it is feasible and wherever Serbian institutions function, which is also very important for local elections to be held in Kosovo-Metohija, because they legitimise a system to the highest degree.
There are problems, and I believe that a solution must be found together with the UNMIK, the only legitimate civilian mission in the province, said Kostunica and added that Serbia will eventually win the fight for Kosovo-Metohija.
According to him, that fight is not without chance of success because 150 countries recognise Serbia within its borders, which first and foremost shows that a large number of states are being cautious because they know that “tomorrow a Kosovo may happen in their countries”.
The Prime Minister noted that parliamentary elections are not of particular significance for foreign investors, because more important to them are regulations and a stable legislative framework of the country.
Elections are a normal occurrence in all countries and do not affect the determination of a country or an investor to invest in another country, because investors are interested in regulations and their implementations, because they make investment decisions based on those indicators, explained Kostunica.
He stressed that foreign investors read regulations very thoroughly to see what is stated in them and how they are applied in order to invest in a country with a stable legislative framework.
Since 2000, Serbia has showed that it is a stable country with normal neighbourly relations and that it has led a sustained policy, taking care of stability and peace in the region, said the Prime Minister.
According to him, foreign investors have no reason not to invest in Serbia, because Serbia is situated in a geographically important position, it has a series of comparative advantages over other states in the region, as well as the tradition of cooperation with a number of European and other states and companies.
He emphasised that the construction of the Horgos-Pozega motorway and the main gas pipe line will certainly continue.
Apart from Telekom and Dunav companies, who are already in Republika Srpska, a single and integrated system of Serbian Electric Power Industry (EPS) and Republika Srpska is being put up, which is of huge importance for these two countries, said Kostunica.
He also stressed that Serbia has always been a regional leader when it comes to electric energy, adding that what EPS has done despite enormous difficulties, including the 1999 NATO bombing, is very impressive.
