The fourth-seeded Jankovic beat Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-5, and Ivanovic upset 2006 runner-up Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia 6-0, 3-6, 6-1.
Jankovic, 22, looked in control until she served for the match, leading 5-4, but she wasted a match point with an unforced error and was broken.
Two games later, she served for the match again and squandered three more match points before sealing victory.
Vaidisova had 23 forehand winners to two for Jankovic, but also had more unforced errors - 42-20.

Kuznetsova, seeded third, lost more than half her service points and was broken six times by the seventh-seeded Ivanovic.
The 19-year-old Serb won 25 of 33 points in the first set against Kuznetsova. She made an unforced error in the match's first point, missing a backhand, and then only one other for the rest of that set.
Kuznetsova took a medical timeout for abdominal pains while trailing 2-1 in the third set.
Jankovic will play defending champion Justine Henin, while Ivanovic meets No. 2 Maria Sharapova.
