Speaking at a meeting of BSEC member states foreign ministers, Draskovic recalled that Serbia took over the presidency over this organisation from Russia on November 1, 2006 and that now hands it over to Turkey.
He said that Serbia, starting from the undeniable interest of BSEC and all its member states to develop and improve relations with the European Union, paid special attention to improving the organisation's cooperation with the EU.
The fight against organised crime and terrorism is also one of the imperatives of all member states, Draskovic said and added that cooperation in that field can bring manifold benefits, first of all because crime knows no borders.
Draskovic pointed to the importance and role of the Danube, which represents traffic, trade and development main road of the region, having potentials for attracting investment into this and other sectors of the economy. Therefore, he underlined, it is necessary to use all the potential this river offers.
The meeting of the foreign ministers of BSEC member states ended with the signing of a joint Belgrade Declaration, which contains all foreign policy and economic elements during Serbia's presidency and gives Serbia's view of this organisation's outlook for the future.
During this ministerial meeting, the participants signed four memorandums of understanding, and these are for coordinated development of a belt highway around the Black Sea, for development of sea routes in the region of the Black Sea cooperation, on cooperation between diplomatic academies of member states and relaxations in road traffic.
At the end of the meeting, Draskovic handed over the presidency of the organisation to Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.
