Serbia opened the scoring with a goal from Nikic, but Croatia answered with six straight to take a five-goals lead, 6-1.
Defending world and European champions only managed to bring the score back to three-goals gap.
Serbia will play for the bronze medal against Spain, while Croatia will face Hungary in final match.
