Formal reception of the Serbia-Montenegrin female volleyball national team

The historical success of the Serbia-Montenegrin female volleyball national team, which won the bronze medal at the World Championship in Japan, was celebrated at a formal reception in front of the Belgrade City Hall, where several thousand enthusiastic and delighted fans gathered to welcome the players.

The reception was also attended by a number of sports officials and public personalities, and the volleyball team coach Zoran Terzic wished all sportspeople to experience similar success.

The players, Jovana Veskovic, Jovana Brakocevic, Brizitka Molnar, Maja Simanic, Aleksandra Jankovic, Maja Ognjenovic, Natasa Krsmanovic, Jelena Nikolic, Anja Spasojevic, Ivana Djerisilo, world’s best libero Suzana Cebic and, with trophy in hands, team captain Vesna Citakovic-Djurisic spoke to the citizens of Belgrade and thanked them.

Serbian Minister of Education and Sport Slobodan Vuksanovic said at a press conference held after the reception that our volleyball players trained in silence and left without making big promises, and brought us great joy. He added that in recognition of their success the team will be awarded €150,000.

Belgrade Mayor Nenad Bogdanovic recalled that no one expected such a good result when the team left for Japan.

They won the bronze medal for us with their intelligence, capabilities and talent, said Bogdanovic and expressed his conviction that the team will continue in the same spirit.
