Addressing the ceremony at the Jajinci Memorial Park, Macut ssid that any ideology that divides people into those who are worthy and those who are not leads to tragedy, adding that Serbia’s strength lies in peace and stability and that everyone should, through their own example, show that the country is committed to peace, stability and dialogue.
According to him, history sometimes warns quietly, and sometimes through places such as Jajinci, which is why today’s ceremony is not only an act of remembrance and preserving the dignity of the victims, but also a promise to do everything possible to ensure that future generations never experience the horrors that those who suffered endured.
At a time when the world is once again going through difficult trials, we must understand that peace cannot be taken for granted, but must be safeguarded every day, while dialogue must be nurtured. Therefore, Serbia has a lasting obligation to preserve the memory of the innocent victims and pass on the truth about their lives to future generations, Macut said.
Following his address at the ceremony in the Memorial Park, which was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps and numerous war veterans’ associations, the Prime Minister signed the memorial book.
“With deep respect for all those who innocently suffered at this place, we preserve the memory of their lives and suffering. It is our lasting obligation to remember and leave future generations a pledge to safeguard peace, human dignity and everyone’s right to life and freedom. Serbia will not forget Jajinci. Eternal remembrance of the innocent victims,” Macut wrote. He had previously laid a wreath on behalf of the Serbian government.
After the Guard Orchestra of the Serbian Armed Forces performed the national anthem “Bože pravde” (“God of Justice”) wreaths and flowers were also laid by Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Milan Mojsilović, together with representatives of the Ministry of Defence, representatives of the City of Belgrade, members of the National Council of the Roma National Community of Serbia, representatives of the Jewish Community of Serbia and the victims’ family members.
Flowers and wreaths were also laid by representatives of the diplomatic corps, including Ambassador of Israel to Serbia Avivit Bar-Ilan, as well as representatives of the military missions of foreign countries in Serbia.
