Prime Minister in a caretaker capacity Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, attended the fourth session of the Working Group for the Development and Design of Integrated Circuits (chips) today, which focused on reviewing progress to date and outlining next steps in preparing a strategic framework for developing a domestic ecosystem in this field.

Macut highlighted the particular value of this initiative, noting that it originated from domestic engineers and professors, and emphasised that Serbia possesses top-tier experts who are already developing cutting-edge technologies for major global companies.
The Prime Minister assessed that developing domestic capabilities in integrated circuit design would bring a new dimension of quality to Serbia and could, in the long run, unlock significant export potential.
The Prime Minister also pointed out the importance of applying artificial intelligence in the development of modern technologies, including the field of integrated circuit design.
Macut specifically highlighted the importance of education and cultivating a new generation of experts, as well as strengthening the ties between universities and the business sector through practical work and joint programmes.
It is particularly important that, through initiatives like this, we cultivate a new generation of experts and pave the way for Serbia to be recognized as a regional hub for high technology and innovation, Macut said.
He stated that he expects the Working Group to provide concrete, actionable recommendations that will enable the clear definition of priorities – specifically, what the state should do first, which personnel need to be trained and in which areas Serbia can make the greatest strides.
The Working Group, established by the Government of Serbia in June of this year, brings together representatives from the academic community and the business sector, as well as experts from both the country and the diaspora. Its mandate is to analyse the current situation, prepare an expert assessment and propose a strategic framework and development programme for the domestic chip design ecosystem.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the Government would continue to support the work of experts and initiatives aimed at developing Serbia’s knowledge base, innovation and high-tech capabilities.
