The Government of Serbia adopted a Conclusion at its session today recommending to employers to allow their employees not to work on Christmas Eve, specifically those who observe it according to the Gregorian calendar to have the day off on 24 December 2025 and Orthodox Christians, who observe the holiday according to the Julian calendar, to have the day off on 6 January 2026.

Incentive for positive selection of personnel in healthcare system

If they are required to carry out their activities continuously during state and religious holidays, employers are also recommended to ensure that employees are granted the entitlements due to them for work performed on a public holiday that is a non-working day.
The government also adopted conclusions today granting consent for the Ministry of Health to undertake all measures within its remit with the aim of employing the best 100 graduates of medical faculties and employing on a permanent basis the best 300 graduates of secondary medical schools in healthcare institutions in Serbia.
The explanatory memoranda to the conclusions note that the implementation of these measures represents a continuation of the trend of further encouraging positive selection of personnel in the healthcare system and enabling young doctors to work and further their professional development in their own country, which contributes to the further development of Serbian medicine.
With regard to the employment of nurses and medical technicians, it was emphasised that this would enable them to work and further their professional development in their own country, which also contributes to further improvement in the provision of healthcare and the overall development of medical science in the country, while at the same time representing an interest of national, strategic and vital importance for the Republic of Serbia.
