New kindergarten to advance preschool education in Leskovac

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, together with Mayor of Leskovac Goran Cvetanović, opened in Leskovac today the Vesela družina kindergarten, which can accommodate 120 children and whose construction involved an investment of approximately RSD 94 million.

At the opening, Macut underlined that the new facility represents an important step forward for preschool education in southern Serbia, adding that it serves as an example of how the government systematically implements measures within the project aimed at improving conditions in preschool and school education.

The kindergarten was built with funds from the project Inclusive Early Childhood Education and Care, implemented by the Ministry of Education with the support of a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), said the Prime Minister, adding that 23 new kindergartens have been built in 22 local self-governments in Serbia through this project.

According to him, the total investment in the Vesela družina kindergarten in Leskovac amounts to RSD 94 million, and this facility, with an area of 780 square metres, can accommodate 120 children.

Minister of Education Dejan Vuk Stanković noted that the kindergarten will be attended by children from nursery to preschool level, which is mandatory as a preparatory class for the start of primary education.

He added that the institution will employ qualified staff adhering to high professional standards and ensure the inclusion of all children from sensitive groups who are required to attend preschool education.
