Serbia-Montenegro beats Portugal with 2-0

Barcelos, 26 May 2006

Young football national team of Serbia-Montenegro beat last night hosts Portugal with 2-0 in the second round of the European Championship for teams under 21 years of age.

Current European vice-champion Serbia-Montenegro took the lead after Jose Castro made an own goal in the 16th minute, and it secured the victory when Branislav Ivanovic scored the second goal in the 65th minute.

That is how Serbia-Montenegrin national team will continue to compete for the semi-finals since France beat Germany with 3-0. Serbia-Montenegro and Germany now have three points each, while France is leading with six points. Portugal has lost all chances to reach the semi-finals.

On May 28, Serbia-Montenegro will meet with France, and Germany with Portugal.

The two first ranking teams from every group will go to the semi-finals.
