During the break at the third meeting of the Group of Serbia-Montenegro and NATO on the reform of defence, Dinkic said that over the next four years the state will be setting aside 2.4% of GDP each year for the needs of the Ministry of Defence, which will considerably increase the military budget.
He explained that the annual budget of the Ministry of Defence is projected at some 50 billion dinars and that setting aside 2.4% of GDP will mean that the armed forces will have one budget more per year by 2010.
The additional funds will be used for better equipment of the army, as well as for solving the social and material needs of former and present member of the armed forces.
Participants in the third meeting of the Group of Serbia-Montenegro and NATO were Serbia-Montenegrin Minister of Defense Zoran Stankovic, US Ambassador to Belgrade Michael Polt and Norwegian Ambassador Haakon Blankenborg, who is Serbia-Montenegro's contact partner with NATO, as well as representatives of the embassies of NATO member countries in Belgrade.
The Group of Serbia-Montenegro and NATO was established in February with the aim of more efficient implementation of reforms, better coordination, strengthening of democratic control of the defence institutions and preparation of Serbia-Montenegro for membership in the Partnership for Peace.
