At a press conference at which the ministry presented the results of their work in the past two years, Stojkovic recalled that bills on legal practice and training of judges, prosecutors, deputy prosecutors and judicial and prosecution assistants are undergoing parliamentary procedure. The Draft law on the DNA Register Administration Agency was also composed, he added.
A modernised code on criminal procedure (ZKP) is underway, said Stojkovic. The code will give the prosecutor the authority to investigate and will introduce mediation in criminal procedure. Also in preparation are bills on notary public, the Agency for Fighting Corruption and confiscation of property accumulated through criminal acts, said the minister and added that all bills are being composed together with relevant experts and in line with the methodology of the Council of Europe and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
The minister pointed out that in the past period laws concerning war crimes and organised crime were amended so that Serbia could fulfill its international obligations.
Speaking about fighting corruption, Stojkovic said that the National Anti-Corruption Strategy was adopted and the creation of an action plan for its implementation as well as a Bill on founding an independent anti-corruption body is about to be completed.
Stojkovic said that, supported by the World Bank, the ministry has commenced work on drafting a strategy for reforms in the judiciary and an action plan for its implementation. The documents are in the final stage and have already been reviewed by the relevant institutions and NGOs.
