The Ministry of the Interior announced today that members of the police, during an extensive seven-day operation aimed at suppressing irregular migration, prevented 3,400 irregular migrants who were hiding in the border zones from reaching the smuggling channels countries of the European Union.

Through a detailed search of the terrain in the area of Subotica, Kikinda, Sombor and Pirot, hundreds of police officers found five automatic rifles, five pistols, more than 1,550 pieces of ammunition of different calibers, as well as 362 foreign passports and a small amount of narcotics.
Also, during these seven days, police officers controlled tens of thousands of people and more than 16,000 vehicles in order to prevent the illegal transit of migrants through Serbia and across the border.
In this action, which is also aimed at detecting smugglers, two Albanians from Kosovo and Metohija were arrested who were suspected of supplying weapons to irregular migrants.
