Minister of Information and Telecommunications Mihailo Jovanovic participated today in the ministerial meeting "Digital Transformation in the Region of the Western Balkans", within the framework of the Bled Strategic Forum 2023.
He presented to the participants in the meeting the results achieved by Serbia in the field of digitalisation, development of infrastructure and electronic administration services, transformation of the education system, construction of innovative infrastructure, as well as data related to the growth of the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.
The Minister stated that, since 2017, when the Serbian government, on the initiative of Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, set digitalisation as one of its priorities, enviable results have been achieved in the digital transformation of public administration, education, economy and a great step forward has been made in the development of the innovation ecosystem.
He pointed out that in this way Serbia became one of the leaders of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, adding that our country bases its further growth and progress on the development of artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
In Serbia, the need for new staff is growing every day, so this year alone, more than 3,700 people were employed in the ICT sector, he underlined.
The Minister said that in 2022 the export of ICT services stood at the record €2.7 billion, while already in the first half of 2023 the export reached €1.6 billion, which is an increase of even 40 percent compared to the same period last year. He recalled that the export of this sector in 2012 was only €375 million.
