In an address to teachers who are seconded to work in Serbian-language schools abroad, Dacic said that in this sense, teaching the Serbian language abroad represents an extremely important and demanding duty that we have towards our fellow citizens who live and work outside of Serbia.
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including our diplomatic and consular representative offices, are carrying out a series of measures and activities aimed at developing awareness of the importance of the Serbian language in preserving national and cultural identity, as well as establishing lasting ties with the homeland, he said.
According to him, classes in the Serbian language are conducted today in 19 countries, everywhere where our people live and work – from Germany and Austria, to Australia and the Republic of South Africa, with 8,000 children attending those classes.
The number of people interested in teaching in the Serbian language is growing year by year, and that must be a great encouragement for all of us. This means that our people in the diaspora take care of their identity, that they want to know where they came from and that they want to pass that sense of patriotism on to their children, the First Deputy Prime Minister said.
He pointed out that we want our programmes and teachers to reach all the areas where our people live and where there is a desire for their children to attend classes in their mother tongue.
