Regional partnerships important for EU accession process

Minister for European Integration Tanja Miscevic and Minister for European and Federal Affairs of the German state of Hesse Lucia Putrich discussed today the internal reforms of Serbia, its institutions and the entire society, which are being implemented in the process of EU accession.

The ministers also discussed the key challenges on the European path, but also the possibilities for further development of cooperation between Serbia and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Miscevic presented the priority reform areas such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture and the complementary sectors of the environment and climate change, and pointed out that these are the sectors in which there is room for deeper cooperation with Hesse, as an economically highly developed German state.

She also pointed to the activities that Serbia is implementing in strengthening the rule of law, primarily in the independence of the judiciary, as well as in the fight against corruption and freedom of the media, because these are elements that significantly contribute to the legal security of investments in our economy.

Putrich pointed out that partnerships between regions are a good way to strengthen the EU accession process itself, that they are complementary processes that, through this type of networking, deepen relations between peoples and states in Europe.
