Honorary Secretary General of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Borislav Stankovic opened on Thursday evening in Belgrade the 34th European Basketball Championship for men, at which till September 25 in our capital and in Podgorica, Novi Sad and Vrsac will compete the 16 best teams of the old continent.

President of the organisational committee of the competition Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica wished the participants that the competition takes place in a lively but fair spirit and that the real winners be sports and friendship.
The president of the Basketball Alliance of Serbia and Montenegro Miodrag Babic also addressed participants and after extending his welcome he reminded that after 30 years our country had renewed its role of host of a
European basketball championship.
The opening ceremony that included a march-past of the representatives of participating countries, the presentation of the host cities of the championship and an artistic programme inspired by the greatest successes of our basketball was divided into four parts "move-play-feel the love-start."
