Possibility of renewing Belgrade-Pristina airline

Belgrade/Berlin, 20 January 2020

A delegation of the Ministry of Economy signed a Letter of Intent with Lufthansa today in Berlin on the renewal of the Belgrade-Pristina airline, making the first symbolic step towards a renewed two decades establishment of air traffic between the capital of Serbia and the largest city of the southern Serbian province of Kosovo-Metohija.

Renewing the Belgrade-Pristina airline would facilitate travel and communication for citizens of all nationalities and make Pristina closer to Belgrade and vice versa.

At the same time, that line would mean thousands of new passengers at Belgrade Airport, new users of our national airline's services, and new opportunities would open up for the business community to be better connected in this way, and with far more efficient traffic opportunities goods.

By signing this commercial letter of intent, Serbia demonstrates a clear commitment to promoting the freedom of movement of goods, people and capital and opposing artificially imposed barriers and restrictions.

Serbia will formally notify UNMIK and KFOR of its intention to restore the Belgrade-Pristina airline, which is responsible for control and coordination in the airspace above our southern province, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Kumanovo Military-Technical Agreement.

In order for this letter of intent to be implemented, it will be necessary, in the forthcoming period, to reach appropriate technical agreements with KFOR relating to the normal procedures for the operation of air traffic, in accordance with applicable domestic regulations and Resolution 1244.
