IKEA opens first department store in Serbia

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic attended today the opening of the IKEA department store near Bubanj Potok, in which €70 million was invested and 416 employees were employed.

Vucic, IKEA General Director for Southeast Europe Stefan Vanoverbeke, Mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali, Regional Director for IKEA Development Vladislav Lalic and Director of the Department Store Vladimir Moga by tree planting symbolically marked the beginning of the operation of the department store.
They planted a white birch, which is a symbol of youth, strength and prosperity.
The opening ceremony was attended by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic and President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Marko Cadez.
This company has built an infrastructure around the department store worth about €10 million. More than 2 km of roads that access that complex, three roundabouts, 2 km of new public lighting, as well as more than 5,000 m of water and sewage network were completed.
IKEA bought 31 ha of land near Bubanj Potok as in the second phase of investments of an additional €60 million it plans to create about 400 new jobs.
