At a regional meeting concerning the EU’s perspective on South Eastern Europe, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic said that the European Commission has prepared an aid package for South Eastern Europe, worth €120 million.
Djelic pointed out that the European Commission has recognised the importance of South Eastern Europe in economic terms, as it is considerably related with the EU.
Djelic pointed out that the networking of countries in the region is of importance for surmounting both the global financial crisis and the energy crisis, adding that CEFTA is the best proof of how all countries in the region can make considerable progress if they are cooperative.
The Minister said that according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), 2009 global GDP growth will be 0.5 %.
Western European GDP growth will fall by 2% and countries in Central and South Eastern Europe are expected to achieve GDP growth of 2.3%, said Djelic.
The meeting is being attended by Macedonian Minister for EU Integration Ivica Bocevski, Bosnia-Herzegovina Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Mladen Zirojevic, State Secretary for EU Integration at the Croatian Foreign Ministry Davor Bozinovic, Albanian Secretary General for EU Integration Arben Kasahu, Montenegrin Deputy Minister of Finance Milorad Katnic and the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council Hido Biscevic.
A panel discussion themed “European Perspective of South Eastern Europe for 2009” will also be held and Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic will address the participants.
