Speaking at a press conference held at the end of the sixth ministerial conference "
Environment for Europe", Barlund said that since the previous conference held in Kiev until today a significant improvement was achieved in all areas and that UNECE will continue to support the process "Environment for Europe". He highlighted the importance of education for sustainable development.
Serbian Minister of Environmental Protection Sasa Dragin said that the Belgrade ministerial conference is the greatest event organised in the Serbian capital since the Summit of Non-Aligned Countries in 1989.
We have shown that Serbia is a European country, capable of organising such an important event, help in the creation of the environmental protection policy and guide the civilisation towards a better and cleaner future, Dragin said.
Dragin welcomed the formation of the Regional Centre for Monitoring Climate Changes in Belgrade and supported the initiative of Serbian President Boris Tadic to abolish payment of taxes on all clean forms of transport.
The Belgrade conference was concluded with the signing of the agreement of cooperation between the Institute of Ecology in Geneva and the Serbian Ministry of Environmental Protection, which is the first step towards implementation of the ministerial declaration which was adopted.
During the afternoon, Slovenian and Serbian ministers of environment Janez Podobnik and Sasa Dragin signed the Agreement on cooperation in this field.
