Nikolic said that Serbia has found in Azerbaijan its true partner in the Islamic world, noting that it’s time for the existing friendship to be translated into concrete cooperation and projects.
He underlined that Serbia wants Azerbaijan to give it support in the form of direct investment which would help revive the Serbian economy.
Aliyev expressed his hope that the first official visit of the Serbian President and his talks with Azerbaijani officials will be an excellent basis for the improvement of cooperation in all areas, and that they will serve as a strong incentive for economic cooperation, including energy industry and investments.
Two more agreements were signed in Baku today – on cooperation between the governments of Serbia and Azerbaijan in the field of IT technologies and veterinary medicine. The agreements were signed by foreign ministers of Serbia and Azerbaijan Ivan Mrkic and Elmar Mammadyarov respectively.
Earlier today Nikolic met with Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade and Speaker of the Parliament Ogtay Asadov.
Pointing out that the relations between the two countries will be lifted to the level of strategic partnership today, Asadov recalled that Serbia and Azerbaijan has so far signed 19 bilateral agreements, and that there are good grounds for even better cultural and scientific cooperation.
Also, last year Azerbaijan approved to Serbia a loan worth €300 million for the construction of a motorway from Ljig to Preljina on the route of Corridor 11.
During the day, Presidents Nikolic and Aliyev will uncover a monument to scientist Nikola Tesla, and Nikolic will visit the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The Serbian President is also scheduled to visit the Diplomatic Academy and the opening of an exhibition dedicated to novelist Ivo Andric.
