Mitrovic previously broke the world record in the discus throw. After six series he scored 1012 points and achieved the best result at the third attempt when he threw the discus at 32.97 metres.
Although he broke the world record, Mitrovic failed to win gold because three categories of competitors with varying degrees of disability compete in discus throw so what counts in the end are not metres, but points scored.
This is the fifth medal won by Serbian sportsmen at the Paralympic Games in London.
Before Mitrovic, the gold was won by Tanja Dragic in javelin throw and Zeljko Dimitrijevic in club throw, while table tennis players Borislava Peric-Rankovic and Zlatko Kesler won silver.
