Serbian Minister of Interior Dragan Jocic said today that members of the Serbian Gendarmerie are guarding all potential targets of attacks, such as embassies, particularly the Albanian Embassy, as well as the buildings of non-governmental organisations. He said the situation is under control and added that in case of riots such as those that took place last night, when the mosques in Nis and Belgrade were set on fire, the Ministry of Interior will take all necessary measures to maintain order.

Jocic explained that he gave orders yesterday that mosques must be protected by all means, but without the use of weapons. "I thought that was the best way, because if there had been victims, the spiral of violence would have turned the opposite way and God knows what would have happened by now," said Jocic and explained that the mosque could not have been fully protected last night without a loss of life.
