Presenting the results of the Ministry of Education, Obradovic told a press conference in the Serbian government that the Ministry has created basic conditions for improving the education system, increasing its quality and efficiency, as well as harmonising it with European standards.
The Minister recalled that four laws were adopted, namely the laws on the basics of the education system, textbooks and other teaching aids, preschool education and student standards, as well as amendments to the Law on higher education.
A law on adult education should be adopted by the end of the year, Obradovic confirmed.
As of this year, the Ministry will also provide textbooks free-of-charge for second grade pupils, the Minister announced specifying that around 160,000 schoolbooks have been secured for first and second grade pupils.
The Ministry’s plan is to have at least one computer classroom in each school for the next school year, equipped with 30 modern computers, Obradovic outlined.
He underscored that a reform of grammar and secondary vocational school education is being realised and that nine new educational profiles will be introduced when the new school year starts.
Nine newly-constructed schools were opened during the previous school year and Serbia is the only country in the region to have successfully implemented the first stage of the project to improve conditions in schools, realised with funds from a loan from the European Investment Bank, Obradovic concluded.
