During the two-day conference ’National Judicial Reform Strategy – What Comes Next’, Homen pointed out that since 2006 a total of 35 judicial laws have been adopted, noting that the new strategy will help implement laws consistently and shorten judicial proceedings.
Amendments to the law on criminal proceedings will help speed up judicial proceedings, he said.
The State Secretary said that new laws on lawsuits and executive proceedings will be drafted by the end of this year, which will also help make the judiciary more efficient.
Canadian Ambassador to Serbia John Morrison said that Canada has provided $5 million to Serbia up until now for judicial reforms and the establishment of an independent and efficient justice system.
He stressed that since 2003 Canada has invested more than $400 million in 800 different programmes for strengthening the rule of law in Serbia.
The conference was organised by the Canada-Serbia Judicial Reform Project and it marks the conclusion of the Canada-Balkans Judicial Reform Project. The project was initiated in July 2006 by the Canadian International Development Agency for supporting the successful implementation of the Serbian National Judicial Reform Strategy.
