Red Star names Ratko Dostanic new coach

Serbia and Montenegro football champions Red Star Belgrade have named Ratko Dostanic as their new coach.

Dostanic, who has coached Serbian sides Smederevo and Obilic Belgrade and most recently Bulgaria's Slavia Sofia, has signed a three-year contract.

Dostanic replaces Ljupko Petrovic, who resigned earlier this month after the team's two latest humiliations in European competition.

Red Star lost 4-0 to Russia's Zenit St. Petersburg in the first leg of the UEFA Cup first round and failed in August to qualify for the Champions League this season after losing 5-0 to PSV Eindhoven, and 7-3 on aggregate.
