Supreme Court verifies sentences for murder of Prime Minister Djindjic

The Serbian Supreme Court today confirmed nine first-instance sentences for the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, while the sentences of three criminals have been reduced.
The Court confirmed 40 year prison sentences for Milorad Ulemek and Zvezdan Jovanovic, as well as sentences of 35 years in prison to Aleksandar Simovic, Ninoslav Konstantinovic and Vladimir Milisavljevic.
The sentence for Sretko Kalinic was reduced from 35 to 30 years, Dusan Krsmanovic from 30 to 20 and Zeljko Tojaga from 30 to 15.
30 year prison sentences were confirmed for Milos Simovic, Milan Jursic and Branislav Bezarevic.
The decision of the Court was explained in a 107 page document that will be sent to the District Court in Belgrade today, from where it will be forwarded to the Prosecution, the accused and their Defence.
Ulemek and Jovanovic, who received the highest sentences of 40 years, have the right to third-instance proceedings.
They can issue an appeal within 15 days of receiving the Supreme Court’s decision, after which the court can hold a third-instance session.
