MATCH REPORT: The two-time defending world basketball champions finished next-to-last in the Olympics. Serbia-Montenegro ended its worst major international tournament in decades with an 85-62 victory over Angola on Tuesday in the 11th-place game.
The world champions in 1998 and 2002 finished with a 2-4 record that included two losses by one point and another by three. Competing as Yugoslavia, it won the silver medal in the 1996 Olympics and was sixth at Sydney.
Milos Vujanic hit two 3-pointers — twice what Serbia-Montenegro had in the first half — in a 12-4 run to open the third quarter that gave it a 46-29 lead. Vlado Scepanovic hit consecutive 3s later in the quarter to give Serbia-Montenegro its first 20-point lead, 59-39.
Scepanovic was 4-for-6 from 3-point range and had 18 points, while Vujanic was 4-for-7 and scored 16. Serbia-Montenegro finished 8-for-18 on 3s after going 1-for-5 in the first half.
Valter Monteiro had 26 points for Angola.
