Speaking at a press conference today, at which this joint project of the Serbian Ministry of Health and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) was presented, Milosavljevic said that every individual bears responsibility for their own health and that in the chain of safeguarding the health of the young, the family and community as a whole play a very important part. When everyone understands that, there will be less young people aged between 10 and 26 addicted to psychoactive and similar substances or suffering from various sexual transmitted diseases and depression.
According to him, injuries in car accidents and other forms of violent death are a constant menace and that is why it is necessary to promote healthy lifestyles and that the family, school, local community and the health system act together, without which there can be no comprehensive understanding of the heatlh of young people.
Municipal President of New Belgrade Zeljko Ozegovic said that his municipality has joined the project, which is being conducted in Novi Sad and Novi Pazar. He added that working groups have been formed for each area, consisting of professionals in various areas who, together with youth representatives, are in charge of monitoring and coordinating local activities for improving the health of youths.
The Serbian Health Ministry is responsible for implementing the national strategy for the development and health of young people aged from 10 to 26 years.
Major problems faced by the youth in Serbia have been identified as drug addiction, sexually transmitted diseases, depression and violence, as well as problems regarding reproductive health.
