Ljajic said at a press conference held after the signing of the agreement that there are currently 82 collective centres in Serbia, accommodating 1,933 refugees and 5, 123 IDPs. Under this agreement, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy shall set aside RSD 40 million for solving their housing needs, while Divac HOD will donate everything it collects in a campaign it launched in late September.
The Minister said that Serbia will not stop insisting on the implementation of the Sarajevo declaration, signed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia and Montenegro and according to which all rights of refugees from the ex Yugoslavia must be realised.
Representative of the Commissariat for refugees and IDPs Nikola Vukojevic said that so far the state has bought 7,000 housing units, including 264 rural households, for accommodation of 30,000 refugees and IDPs.
Vukojevic said that that is important since over 200,000 refugees took Serbian citizenship and plan to stay in Serbia. He added that in the continuation of the campaign, the state will mostly buy rural households in Vojvodina and outskirts of Serbia, where collective centres are mostly located.
He also announced a pilot project of construction of 1,000 apartments for refugees in ten Serbian towns, worth €20 million.
