At the presentation of a publication on the use of information and communication technologies in Serbia in 2007 by households, individuals and companies, he said that the use of computers varies depending upon territories, in Vojvodina it is 98.3%, in central Serbia 98.2% and in Belgrade 97%.
Research carried out in 1,000 companies with 10 or more employees, according to the EUROSTAT methodology, shows that there are some 20,000 such companies.
Vukmirovic said that 90.6% of companies in Serbia have internet access, and 46.7% which have internet use the dial-up connection, which shows the development level of their infrastructure.
According to Vukmirovic, 61.8% companies which have an internet connection possess a website, which means that a total of some 13,000 companies in Serbia have their own site.
There are differences depending on territorial distribution, and in Belgrade 67.7% of companies have a site, in central Serbia 65.6% and in Vojvodina 47.5%.
He said that the research shows that every third household in Serbia has a computer, while last year a little over a fourth of households had a computer.
He specified that in households the most common technical equipment is the television, which is possessed by 97.8% of households, and 73.6% of the population have a mobile telephone.
According to the number of households which own a computer, countries which Serbia is ahead of are Romania, Macedonia and Bulgaria, and on average EU countries 60% households have a computer.
He added that there are territorial differences in the number of households which own a computer, in Belgrade this figure is 45.4%, in Vojvodina 34.4% and in central Serbia 26.3%.
Vukmirovic said that in urban areas more households have a computer than in rural; the ratio is 42.7% to 21.6%, and the growth rate of computer ownership in these areas is also widely different.
According to Vukmirovic, 26.3% households have an internet connection, which is an increase of 7.8% against the previous year, and the figure is highest for Belgrade where it is 39.1%, in Vojvodina 29.2% and in central Serbia 16.5%.
Vukmirovic explained that on average 49% households in the EU have an internet connection, and Serbia is ahead of Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Romania.
He added that mostly households with a monthly income larger than €600 have an internet connection which is 72.9% while a mere 13% of households with an income of €300 have an internet connection.
Research on use of information and communication technology implemented for individuals, shows that more than 2.3 million people in Serbia, which is 41.2%, used a computer in the previous three months, which is an increase of 4.5% compared to last year, said Vukmirovic.
He recalled that the EU average for individuals’ use of computer is 59% and Serbia in this respect is ahead of Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Romania.
The majority of computer users in Serbia are students, of which 89.5% used a computer in the previous three months, which means that 10% have not used a computer, said Vukmirovic and added that more than 1.5% million people use a computer every day or almost every day.
According to Vukmirovic, in Serbia 1.7 million or 29.9% people used internet in the previous three months, and more than 850,000 of these use internet everyday. This figure in the EU is 52%, and the largest number of internet users is in Iceland, where the figure is 88%.
The Statistical Office carried out this research on a sample of 2,000 households and 2,000 individuals, according to the EUROSTAT methodology, and it includes households with at least one member, aged 16 to 74, as well as individuals in the same age group.
