Samardzic-Markovic told a press conference held following the opening of the international press centre in the Olympic Village in New Belgrade that the upcoming festival is the most important and major sports event, which Serbia is hosting this year.
She said that the organisers are faced with the great challenge of presenting Belgrade, Serbia, our young people and sports to an international public in the best possible manner.
Young European Olympic competitors, among them future world champions, will try to achieve top results in 11 various disciplines stressed Samardzic-Markovic and added that a lot of effort and funds were invested in order to make the festival successful.
She said that the EYOF also presents an opportunity to construct bridges with Europe and due to that, besides having an importance for sports, the event is also important in a cultural and political sense, adding that one of the basic tasks of the Ministry is caring for the youth.
We are ready to welcome guests from all parts of Europe and we hope that after the event they will leave Serbia with a positive impression, said Samardzic-Markovic.
Belgrade Deputy Mayor and president of the EYOF organisational board Radmila Hurstanovic said that it is an honour to organise such an important competition.
She pointed to the fact that all preparations for the festival are complete and all necessary equipment has arrived, adding that opening and closing ceremonies will be held in the Belgrade Arena.
Hrustanovic expressed conviction that images of Serbia, which will go around the world through the media, will present the country at its best.
Director of the company EYOF 2007 Djordje Visacki recalled that several hundred people worked on the organisation of this event, and that some 1,000 volunteers were engaged in the project.
He said that during the event there will be a cultural and artistic performance held every day in the Olympic Village for participants.
We have enough motivation in all segments and I believe that Belgrade will be a wonderful host to all participants, said Visacki.
