Naumov told a press conference that the funds will be used for improving the work of the Serbian Energy Efficiency Agency and the Agency’s centre for renewable energy sources, especially wind energy.
The Minister recalled that improving renewable energy sources is one of the priorities of the Strategy for the development of energy in Serbia, and stressed that the agreement will enable quality and objective research on the potential of wind energy to be conducted in Serbia, and areas for setting up wind generators be located.
He stressed that the realisation of this project will also guarantee fulfilment of obligations established through domestic legislation, as well as international obligations and conducting the energy policy.
Siquier said that Spain is helping Serbia with modernisation and success in European integration through this donation.
According to Siquier, such projects were implemented in other countries where positive results were achieved.
Deputy Director of the Serbian Energy Efficiency Agency Bojan Kovacic said that this project envisages investigation of wind at three locations, purchase and installation of equipment for measuring and designing the annual measurement programme.
Kovacic said that according to directives of the European Union, the share of electricity production from renewable energy sources has been increased from 14% to 21%. The share of new capacities should reach 42% by 2010, and over 60% from 2020.
He said that €29 billion was invested in renewable energy sources in 2005, of which 37% was invested in the use of wind energy.
According to him, there are no reliable data on potentials of wind energy in Serbia. The only data are those obtained from the Hydrometeorological Bureau in twenty meteorological stations in Serbia, which are not very suitable for measuring wind potential.
Apart from Naumov and Siquier, the agreement was also signed by General Coordinator of the Technical Department for Cooperation with the Balkans of the Spanish International Cooperation Agency (AECI) Cristina Gutierrez Hernandez.
