The Minister added that the project was financed by the World Bank and by a donation from the British Department for International Development (DFID), while the Ministry also participated in financing. The entire project is worth $5.45 million, added Lalovic.
It was first realised in four pilot municipalities – Nis, Kraljevo, Pancevo and Lazarevac – and then spread to another 11 towns in Serbia, said Lalovic and stressed that the primary aim of the project is assistance to people who lost jobs in the transition process or were declared superfluous workforce.
According to Lalovic, the assistance includes training for other jobs or on how to start their own businesses, skills necessary for finding new jobs and similar.
He specified that within the project 13 transition centres were opened in Serbia which were visited by over 15,000 people, as well as eight clubs for finding jobs. Also, eight studies on local economic development were carried out and a data base on excessive workforce in 38 companies was established.
