Serbian Minister of International Economic Relations Milan Parivodic and Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Gerlando Genuardi signed today agreements on financing projects for modernisation of clinical centres in Belgrade, Novi Sad Nis and Kragujevac as well as for reconstruction of the rail tracks in the part of Corridor 10 whose total value amounts to €160 million.

After the signing of agreements, Genuardi said that €80 million for reconstruction of clinical centres is the first tranche of the €200 million loan, adding that the rest will be paid out in the next three years.
The loan for four clinical centres will be used to reconstruct, equip and renovate these health institutions as well as to train medical staff, Genuardi said.
He also stated that this is continuation of cooperation of assisting the Serbian health sector that started back in 2003 by approving a €50 million loan for 20 regional hospitals.
Parivodic noted that €80 million for railway company Zeleznice Srbije will be used to reconstruct 93 kilometres of rail tracks on Corridor 10.
Director General of Zeleznice Srbije Milanko Sarancic said that realisation of this project will allow speedier traffic on Serbian railways and larger transit along Corridor 10, on which €40 million in revenues has been generated since the beginning of the year.
He added that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) earlier approved a €60 million loan to Zeleznice Srbije for the purchase of 1,100 cargo wagons.
Sarancic stressed that Zeleznice Srbije needs more than €1 billion for modernisation of the railroad along Corridor 10.
Since 2001, EIB allowed 19 loans to Serbia worth more than €850 million.
